About

About IndusInd General Insurance

IndusInd General Insurance Company Limited is a general insurance company. It was incorporated on August 17, 2000 as Reliance General Insurance and received its IRDAI approval to write general insurance on October 23, 2000. The name changed to IndusInd General Insurance on September 22, 2025, in line with the brand of IndusInd International Holdings Limited (IIHL). It underwrites fire, marine and miscellaneous (motor, health, travel and similar) cover. The numbers below are from the audited FY26 annual report on the company's own website. Gross written premium was ₹12,743.11 crore in FY26 against ₹12,666.81 crore in FY25. The company says growth was held back by the non-renewal of some crop insurance tender business. Profit after tax fell to ₹90.81 crore from ₹315.44 crore, which the company attributes to a few large claims and stronger reserves. Net worth stood at ₹3,919.13 crore and the solvency ratio at 1.73 times against the 1.5 times IRDAI minimum. Reliance Capital Limited is the promoter and holding company, with 73.74% of the equity. Aasia Enterprises LLP holds 24.96%. During FY26 these two shareholders put in ₹400 crore through a fresh share issue. The company has 27,68,51,308 equity shares of ₹10 each. Its subordinated, listed non-convertible debentures are rated by CARE (A+), Brickwork (A) and Acuite. The CEO, Mr. Rakesh Jain, completes the maximum permitted tenure on October 19, 2026, and Mr. Sharad Mathur has been appointed as his successor, subject to approvals. The company is not listed on any stock exchange, only its debentures are on BSE. Its shares trade off-market through dealers. On IPO Guru the indicative price is ₹550 per share with a lot size of 1000 shares, which values the company at about ₹15,226.82 crore. Such prices are indicative, not exchange prices, and the company has not announced an IPO.

Strengths

  • Gross written premium of ₹12,743.11 crore in FY26 makes it a large general insurer; excluding crop insurance the company reports 12.99% growth.
  • Net worth rose to ₹3,919.13 crore in FY26 from ₹3,428.60 crore, helped by a ₹400 crore equity infusion from its promoters.
  • Solvency ratio was 1.73 times at March 31, 2026, above the 1.5 times IRDAI minimum and up from 1.59 times a year earlier.
  • Book value per share improved to ₹141.56 from ₹129.42 in FY25.
  • Income from investments grew to ₹298.25 crore in FY26 from ₹265.35 crore, adding to underwriting results.

Risks

  • Profit after tax fell to ₹90.81 crore in FY26 from ₹315.44 crore, and basic EPS dropped to ₹3.39 from ₹11.91.
  • Cash flow from operating activities was negative at ₹438.10 crore in FY26 (₹714.44 crore negative in FY25), so operations did not fund themselves.
  • Borrowings rose to ₹963.83 crore from ₹230.00 crore, adding interest cost and repayment obligations.
  • Net written premium fell to ₹6,797.55 crore from ₹7,248.72 crore, and gross premium growth was flat because of lost crop insurance business.
  • Net incurred claims were ₹5,809.17 crore, so the business depends heavily on claims experience and large single claims can hit profit.
  • The ownership changed after Reliance Capital's insolvency process ended in March 2025, and old employee stock options were extinguished under NCLT orders, which can affect staff retention.
  • A planned bonus issue was rescinded in March 2026, and the company has relied on promoter capital infusions to support growth.
  • The CEO's maximum tenure ends on October 19, 2026, so leadership changes soon.
  • Unlisted share prices are indicative, off-market and thinly traded, so exit may be hard.
