About

About Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation (MKCL)

Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL) was incorporated on August 20, 2001. It was promoted by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, and is based in Pune. Its best known product is MS-CIT, an IT literacy course whose first batch started in July 2002 with 22,000 learners. MKCL earns most of its money from courses and programmes it delivers through a network of learning centres, and from programmes it runs for state governments and agencies. In FY26, 7,08,371 learners took MS-CIT, against 7,98,647 in FY25. It also runs the CSMS-DEEP diploma for SARTHI and the Kushal Yuva Program for the Bihar Skill Development Mission, where 3,36,609 learners were enrolled in FY26. The FY26 annual report shows consolidated revenue from operations of ₹20,147.06 lakh, down from ₹27,605.83 lakh in FY25. The company says fewer MS-CIT learners, fewer completed CSMS-DEEP modules and fewer Bihar learners caused the fall. Consolidated profit for the year was ₹6,072.76 lakh, against ₹3,204.52 lakh in FY25, when it had paid ₹4,615.18 lakh of GST under an amnesty scheme. The company says it has no bank borrowings. Ownership is spread out. The Government of Maharashtra holds 37.13%, ten state public universities hold 33.91%, and autonomous bodies, educational institutions, training centres, small businesses and individuals hold the remaining 28.96%. The paid up share count is 8,080,195 equity shares of ₹10 each. The board is chaired by Dr Anil Kakodkar, and Mr. Sameer Pande is Managing Director. MKCL has not filed a DRHP with SEBI as far as our records show, and we have no IPO date or price for it. Shares of a company like this change hands off the market between private parties, so the price shown on this page (₹435 per share, lot of 100 shares) is only an indicative figure and not an exchange price. At that price the implied market cap is about ₹351.49 crore.

Strengths

  • Consolidated profit for the year rose to ₹6,072.76 lakh in FY26 from ₹3,204.52 lakh in FY25, and FY25 carried a one time GST payment of ₹4,615.18 lakh.
  • The company reports no bank borrowings, and its consolidated total equity was ₹67,462.69 lakh at March 31, 2026 against total assets of ₹77,465.48 lakh.
  • Operating cash flow turned positive at ₹4,224.87 lakh in FY26 after a negative ₹3,634.47 lakh in FY25, and cash and equivalents stood at ₹2,946.81 lakh.
  • MS-CIT has run since 2002 and still had 7,08,371 learners in FY26, showing a long running, repeat demand base.
  • Ownership is anchored by the Government of Maharashtra at 37.13% and ten state universities at 33.91%, which gives it a strong institutional link to state education.
  • The board includes senior academics and technologists, with Dr Anil Kakodkar as Chairman and Dr Deepak Phatak as a professional director.

Risks

  • Revenue from operations fell about 27% to ₹20,147.06 lakh in FY26 from ₹27,605.83 lakh in FY25.
  • MS-CIT learners fell to 7,08,371 in FY26 from 7,98,647 in FY25, and CSMS-DEEP completed modules fell to 53,050 from 1,27,419.
  • Kushal Yuva Program revenue from Bihar dropped to ₹3,005.98 lakh from ₹4,129.22 lakh, showing dependence on government programmes.
  • The company disputes GST demands for FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25 and began collecting GST on courses from the July 2025 batch, which may raise costs for learners.
  • Other income of ₹4,118.79 lakh made up a large part of the ₹24,265.85 lakh total income in FY26, so profit depends on treasury returns as well as the core business.
  • FY26 cash flow from investing activities was negative at ₹3,317.27 lakh, so the company keeps putting surplus into investments rather than the business.
  • The company holds unquoted shares of Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation Limited, whose fair value rests on a discounted cash flow model.
  • Shares trade off market with indicative prices, so liquidity is thin and there is no guarantee of a listing.
