About

About National E-Repository (NeRL)

National E-Repository Limited, known as NeRL, is a commodity repository. It provides a platform where negotiable warehouse receipts for commodities are issued, held and transferred in electronic form. These are called eNWRs. In simple terms, a farmer or trader who stores produce in a registered warehouse gets an electronic receipt instead of a paper one, and that receipt sits in a repository account much like shares sit in a demat account. The company was incorporated in February 2017 and started operations in September 2017. It is based in Mumbai. It works under the guidelines of the Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA), which issued its approval letter of intent in December 2016. The company says it serves farmers, traders, processors and other participants in the commodity value chain, and that electronic receipts remove the risks of paper receipts such as bad delivery, mutilation and duplication. NeRL was set up by the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX), the largest agri commodity derivatives exchange, which is its holding company. Other shareholders named on the company website are NABARD, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India. Its AGM notice for FY26 shows directors nominated by NABARD, NCDEX and State Bank of India on the board. Saurabh Khanna is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The company's ninth Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 28 September 2026. NeRL has not yet filed a DRHP with SEBI, so there is no IPO journey to report. Its audited financials were not available in a document we could read, so this page does not show revenue or profit. Unlisted shares of a company like this are dealt off-market between private buyers and sellers, and the price shown on this page is only an indicative price, not an exchange price.

Strengths

  • NeRL is promoted by NCDEX, the largest agri commodity derivatives exchange, which gives it direct access to the commodity market ecosystem.
  • Its shareholders include NABARD, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India, institutions with deep reach in agriculture and banking.
  • It is a repository working under WDRA guidelines, so its eNWR business sits inside a formal regulatory framework.
  • Electronic receipts are held in repository accounts and transferred by account transfer, which the company says removes paper risks such as duplication and mutilation.
  • The company has been operating since September 2017, so it has several years of working history in a niche market.

Risks

  • We could not read audited financial statements, so revenue, profit and debt of the company are not verified on this page.
  • The business depends on the use of eNWRs in agri commodity markets, which is a narrow segment compared with the wider financial sector.
  • As a WDRA-regulated repository, changes in WDRA rules, fees or approvals can directly affect how the company operates. Its board appointments also need WDRA approval.
  • NCDEX is the holding company and nominates a director, so decisions can be influenced by the parent and a few institutional shareholders.
  • The company has not filed a DRHP with SEBI, so there is no confirmed IPO plan or timeline.
  • Unlisted shares trade off-market with indicative prices, so liquidity is thin and the price can be hard to verify or exit at.
