About

About Sri Vishnu Shankar Mill

Sri Vishnu Shankar Mill Limited makes cotton yarn. It is part of the Ramco Group of Tamil Nadu and is based in Rajapalaiyam. The company was incorporated in 1981 and its registered office sits inside the mill premises. It runs two factories, Unit I at Rajapalaiyam and Unit II at Srivilliputhur. The company sells yarn to textile makers and brands in India and abroad. In FY25 it sold 65.13 lakh kg of yarn against 59.33 lakh kg the year before. Yarn sales were ₹282.08 crore. Exports of cotton yarn, including merchant exports, were ₹43.32 crore, down from ₹61.59 crore. The company is pushing value-added yarns such as Elitwist, Gassing, High Twist, Melange, Core Yarn and Mercerized Yarn, whose sales rose to 610 tonnes. Power is a big cost for a spinning mill. The company owns windmills of 13.35 MW, and wind power met 51% of its power need in FY25. It has also tied up with solar developers for 4 MW under a group captive arrangement. These are the standalone numbers from the FY25 annual report. Revenue from operations was ₹28,816.09 lakh against ₹25,155.45 lakh in FY24. The company still made a loss. Loss after tax was ₹1,950.92 lakh in FY25 and ₹2,632.42 lakh in FY24. Finance cost was ₹2,217.13 lakh. Total equity fell to ₹1,190.69 lakh from ₹3,141.99 lakh a year earlier. The promoter group holds 63.59% of the 15,00,000 equity shares, with Sharadha Deepa, the Managing Director, holding 45.57%. Other Ramco Group companies are also among the promoters. The company is not listed on any stock exchange and we have no linked IPO filing for it. Unlisted shares of a company like this trade off-market between private buyers and sellers. Strengths

  • Revenue from operations rose to ₹28,816.09 lakh in FY25 from ₹25,155.45 lakh in FY24, as yarn sale volume went up to 65.13 lakh kg from 59.33 lakh kg.
  • Operating cash flow was positive at ₹1,736.05 lakh in FY25 and ₹5,836.99 lakh in FY24, even though the company reported losses in both years.
  • Own windmills of 13.35 MW supplied 51% of the company's power need in FY25, which helps hold down a major cost for a spinning mill.
  • Value-added yarn sales rose to 610 tonnes in FY25, a 78% increase over the previous year, moving the mix away from plain commodity counts.
  • Finance cost came down to ₹22.17 crore in FY25 from ₹23.29 crore, which the company links to cheaper borrowings.
  • The promoter group holds 63.59% and belongs to the Ramco Group, and the company holds stakes in group companies including The Ramco Cements Limited as an associate.

Risks

  • The company made a loss after tax of ₹1,950.92 lakh in FY25 and ₹2,632.42 lakh in FY24, giving earnings per share of ₹-130.00 and ₹-175.00.
  • Total equity fell from ₹3,141.99 lakh to ₹1,190.69 lakh in one year, so the net worth cushion is thin against total assets of ₹31,111.15 lakh.
  • Borrowings are heavy: ₹11,850.22 lakh non-current and ₹15,178.27 lakh current at 31 March 2025, against equity of only ₹1,190.69 lakh.
  • Margins depend on cotton and yarn prices, which the company says swing widely. In FY25 yarn prices fell faster than cotton prices and hurt spinners across India.
  • Exports of cotton yarn dropped to ₹43.32 crore from ₹61.59 crore, and the company cites geopolitical issues and higher freight and insurance costs after the Red Sea crisis.
  • Wind power generation fell to 201 lakh kWh from 248 lakh kWh because of low wind speed, so the cost saving is not steady.
  • Pending electricity-related appeals and writ petitions carry a disclosed exposure of ₹356.86 lakh for which no provision has been made.
  • The company is unlisted, so shares trade off-market at indicative prices with no exchange price discovery, and only 15,00,000 shares exist, which can make trading thin.
