About

About Sterlite Electric

Sterlite Electric Limited, formerly Sterlite Power Transmission Limited, is a manufacturer of capital goods and a provider of system integration solutions for the power transmission and distribution industry. It makes overhead conductors, power cables and optical ground wire (OPGW), and offers master system integration (MSI) services. Its customers include utilities, renewable energy and transmission developers, metro projects, and industrial users such as data centres, steel, oil and gas, and cement. The company says it has served customers in over 70 countries between April 2022 and March 2025. On the numbers, the restated consolidated revenue from operations (continuing operations) was ₹49,557.60 million in FY25, against ₹49,178.94 million in FY24 and ₹32,786.46 million in FY23. Restated profit for the year from continuing operations was ₹1,830.30 million in FY25, down from ₹2,301.27 million in FY24. Total borrowings fell sharply to ₹3,272.21 million at 31 March 2025, from ₹46,114.47 million at 31 March 2023. These figures are from the DRHP, and they cover only the continuing business, because an earlier infrastructure business is shown as discontinued. The company is promoted by Anil Agarwal and Twin Star Overseas Limited. As per the DRHP, Twin Star Overseas holds 87,340,796 equity shares, which is 61.81% of the pre-offer capital on a fully diluted basis. Pravin Agarwal is the Chairman and a non-executive director, and Pratik Pravin Agarwal is the Managing Director. On the IPO front, Sterlite Electric filed its DRHP with SEBI on 9 October 2025. The proposed offer is up to 15,589,174 equity shares of face value ₹2 each, made up of a fresh issue of up to 7,793,371 shares and an offer for sale of up to 7,795,803 shares by the promoter selling shareholder, plus up to 2,432 shares by other selling shareholders. The price band and dates are not announced. Unlisted shares of a company like this are dealt off-market, between private buyers and sellers, so prices are indicative and can differ between dealers. The indicative price on IPO Guru is ₹485 per share for a lot of 100 shares.

Strengths

  • Debt has come down sharply. Total borrowings were ₹3,272.21 million at 31 March 2025, against ₹7,705.27 million a year earlier and ₹46,114.47 million at 31 March 2023.
  • Cash generation was strong in FY25. Net cash from operating activities was ₹6,465.82 million, higher than the restated profit of ₹1,830.30 million for the year.
  • Revenue grew from ₹32,786.46 million in FY23 to ₹49,557.60 million in FY25, on a restated consolidated basis for continuing operations.
  • The closing order book for overhead conductors and OPGW was ₹53,890 million at the end of FY25, up from ₹31,740 million at the end of FY23. Power cables order book rose from ₹5,050 million to ₹15,290 million over the same period.
  • The customer base is spread across the world. Over 70 countries were served between April 2022 and March 2025, and exports outside India were ₹10,007.07 million of FY25 segment revenue.
  • Return on capital employed improved to 28.30% in FY25, from 6.31% in FY23, as per the DRHP.

Risks

  • Customer concentration is high. The top 10 customers contributed 46.00% of revenue from operations in FY25, 56.82% in FY24 and 66.72% in FY23.
  • Overhead conductors are a large part of the business, at 62.83% of revenue from operations in FY25. A downturn in that market would hit the company hard.
  • Profit fell in FY25. Restated profit from continuing operations was ₹1,830.30 million, against ₹2,301.27 million in FY24, and basic EPS fell from ₹17.90 to ₹12.70.
  • EBITDA margin has slipped from 13.20% in FY23 to 10.87% in FY25, and profit after tax margin was 3.66% in FY25.
  • Cash flow has been uneven. Net cash from operating activities was negative at ₹1,657.14 million in FY24, before turning positive in FY25.
  • Exports are a smaller share of revenue now, at 20.19% in FY25 against 35.99% in FY23, and still carry risks from the countries where the company sells.
  • Net worth was ₹14,819.10 million at 31 March 2025, lower than the ₹16,325.39 million at 31 March 2023.
  • Earlier financial statements include a discontinued infrastructure business, so FY23 and FY24 numbers on a continuing basis may not be comparable with older filings.
  • The offer includes a sale of shares by the promoter selling shareholder, so part of the money raised will not go to the company.
  • The company depends on its key managerial personnel and senior management, and losing them could affect operations.
