About Muthoot Fincorp

Muthoot FinCorp Limited is a non-banking finance company registered with the RBI. Gold loans are its main business. It also offers business loans, loans against property, supply chain financing, digital loans, microfinance, housing loans, and fee-based products like insurance, payments and savings. Its customers are mostly underserved households and small businesses: salaried and self-employed families, small shop owners, traders, vendors, farmers and women entrepreneurs. As of March 31, 2026, the company had 5,610 branches and 326 processing centres in 25 states and union territories, with 2.85 million active loan customers and 47,323 employees. It also runs a digital platform called Muthoot FinCorp ONE. On the numbers, the restated consolidated financials show revenue from operations of ₹112,038.11 million in FY26, against ₹84,976.49 million in FY25. Profit for the year was ₹18,476.24 million in FY26 and ₹6,079.90 million in FY25. Assets under management stood at ₹734,447.19 million at the end of FY26, of which gold loans were ₹493,312.01 million. Total borrowings were ₹560,583.41 million. The company is promoter-led. Strengths

  • Gold loan AUM was ₹493,312.01 million at the end of FY26, up from ₹269,921.73 million a year earlier. The DRHP cites CRISIL for a 59.04% CAGR in gold loan AUM between March 31, 2024 and March 31, 2026.
  • Profit for the year rose to ₹18,476.24 million in FY26 from ₹6,079.90 million in FY25. Return on equity was 27.98% against 14.34% a year before.
  • The customer base is granular. There were 2.85 million active loan customers at March 31, 2026, and the company says no borrower is material to its revenue.
  • Asset quality improved. Gross NPA was 1.03% and Net NPA was 0.57% in the KPI table for FY26, against 1.98% and 1.29% in FY25.
  • Distribution is wide and increasingly digital. There were 5,936 branches and processing centres in FY26, and 99.95% of disbursements were made through digital channels.
  • Secured loans made up 78.09% of AUM in FY26, up from 71.42% in FY25.
  • The company is part of the Muthoot Pappachan Group, and its promoter family has long experience in financial services.

Risks

  • Gold loans were 67.17% of AUM at March 31, 2026. A sharp fall in gold prices could hurt collateral value and earnings.
  • Borrowings were ₹560,583.41 million at the end of FY26, and the debt to equity ratio was 6.56 times. The business depends on continued access to funding.
  • Net cash used in operating activities was ₹195,996.41 million in FY26 despite the profit, because the loan book grew fast. Growth is funded mainly by borrowing.
  • Profit fell to ₹6,079.90 million in FY25 from ₹10,479.78 million in FY24, so earnings have not been steady every year.
  • The DRHP's own risk summary reports GNPA of 1.61% and NNPA of 0.74% at March 31, 2026, different from the KPI table, and says NPAs may rise if customers default.
  • Gold is handled across a dispersed branch network. Risks include wrong purity assessment, employee fraud, theft and cash misappropriation.
  • A majority of branches are in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, which contributed 54.97% of AUM.
  • The company is regulated by the RBI and NHB and is subject to inspections. Rule changes or non-compliance could affect the business.
  • The business relies on the Muthoot and Muthoot Pappachan brand names, and losing the right to use them would hurt its position.
  • The DRHP lists 25 criminal proceedings and 137 statutory or regulatory proceedings against the company, and the promoters face their own matters.
