Is Laser Power & Infra IPO GMP Reliable?

Grey market premium for Laser Power & Infra IPO should be interpreted with caution. The GMP is an unregulated, unofficial market not governed by SEBI. Here's how to read the current signal:

  • Subscription rate matters: A high GMP paired with strong subscription — especially QIB (Qualified Institutional Buyer) oversubscription — is a more reliable bullish signal than GMP alone. Read our in-depth analysis: GMP vs Subscription Data — Which Predicts Listing Gains Better?
  • Timing matters: GMP in the first 1–2 days of subscription is less reliable. GMP on the final subscription day and the day before listing tends to be the most accurate predictor.
  • Grey market is thin: For smaller IPOs, even a handful of large orders can swing the GMP significantly. Treat low-volume GMP signals with extra caution.
  • Cross-check before acting: Review the Laser Power & Infra IPO full review for a fundamentals-based assessment before making any grey market trades.

About Laser Power & Infra IPO

Laser Power & Infra Limited was incorporated in 1988 in Kolkata, West Bengal, as Laser Cables Private Limited and converted into a public limited company in September 2025. The company is an integrated manufacturer of power cables, conductors and other specialised products and components for the power transmission and distribution industry in India. It also operates in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) segment, focusing on rural electrification projects and power distribution infrastructure development.

The company operates three manufacturing units in West Bengal — Unit I at Dhulagarh (HT power cables, RDSO signalling cables and conductors), Unit II at Dhulagarh (aluminium wire rods and HT covered conductors) and Unit III at Kharagpur (LT aerial bunched cables, LT power cables and ACSR conductors) — with a combined installed capacity of about 85,448 MT. It is an RDSO-accredited supplier of signalling cables to Indian Railways and has been recognised by CRISIL as a prominent power cable manufacturer in East India. As of 31 August 2025 the company employed around 660 people.

Strengths & Risks

Strengths

  • Integrated manufacturer of power cables and conductors with an operating history of over three decades since 1988.
  • Three manufacturing units in West Bengal with a combined capacity of about 85,448 MT covering HT/LT cables, covered conductors and aluminium wire rods.
  • RDSO-accredited supplier of signalling cables to Indian Railways and recognised by CRISIL as a prominent power cable manufacturer in East India.
  • In-house EPC capability in rural electrification and power distribution adds project revenue alongside manufacturing.
  • Strong earnings momentum — net profit grew from ₹40 Cr in FY24 to ₹152 Cr in FY26 with operating margin improving from 8.9% to 13.0%.

Risks

  • Revenue declined about 9.5% in FY26 over FY25 (₹2,570 Cr to ₹2,326 Cr), reflecting lumpy, order-driven sales.
  • High dependence on government customers — state power utilities, discoms and railways — exposes the company to project and receivable delays.
  • Margins are sensitive to volatile aluminium and copper prices, its key raw materials.
  • Total borrowings rose to ₹828 Cr in FY26 (debt-equity around 1.1); ₹490 Cr of the fresh issue is earmarked for debt repayment.
  • ₹200 Cr of the issue is an offer for sale, whose proceeds go to the selling promoters and not to the company.
  • Manufacturing is concentrated entirely in West Bengal, exposing operations to regional disruptions.
