What does an IPO Registrar do?

The registrar (RTA) is the operational backbone of an IPO's allotment process. Its responsibilities include:

  • Application processing: collecting and validating bids from QIBs, NIIs, retail investors and employees.
  • Basis of allotment: finalising who gets shares when an IPO is oversubscribed, under SEBI rules.
  • Credit & refunds: crediting allotted shares to demat accounts and refunding unsuccessful applicants.
  • Allotment status: hosting the portal where investors check their IPO allotment using PAN or application number.

How to check IPO allotment status

Pick the registrar handling your IPO from the table above, open its allotment page and enter your PAN, application number or DP/Client ID. Every IPO detail page on IPO Guru also links directly to the correct registrar so you don't have to guess.
